Naughty Lucy

Despite my best intentions, this is the first time I have posted since april. I guess this blogging thing is just something I need to get in the habit of doing most days. Hopefully this academic year I will have more time for such things. My timetable has been issued and I only have lectures on Mondays and Tuesdays. Five day weekend! I'm either going to be really productive for the next year or just get nothing done.

And talking of productive, this evening instead of doing the things I was meant to, I decided to make crumpets. I had forgotten how much I love those juicy little breakfast items until they were on offer at the supermarket. Ever the bargain hunter! And as normally happens with me, once I get an idea in my head I have to run with it so tonight it happened.

I'm following the recipe on The Cooking Route blog. You can find it here: http://thecookingroute.com/2009/10/18/overnight-crumpets-a-la-river-cottage
I liked it because they're overnight ones which means I don't have to get up super early to wait for the batter to prove. And proving is what it is doing right now. The yeast in the batter is what makes all the tiny little holes in the crumpets that suck up all that salty butter. So all I have to do is get up in the morning, add the salt and baking powder and cook the crumpets.
I'll let you know how they turn out!

An Introduction

Ok, so this is my first blog entry on my first blog. I'm really starting this blog as a place to record my cooking experiments and as a diary for myself.
I am a culinary arts student and my passion in life is cooking, cooking, cooking. I also like growing plants that I can eat. :) Any inedible plants are not worth bothering with. I like cooking rustic, informal food. I don't dislike, but rather I am just disinterested in fiddly restaurant dishes. What is better than a big dish full of casserole in the middle of the table for everyone to dig in to? Maybe a big dish full of casserole in the middle of the table just for me!
I don't know what I want to achieve. We'll just see as we go. So join me in my culinary quest, if you're out there. Somewhere.
